Your 1st Test

Your first test is to find a good driving instructor. Anyone can teach you to drive but the law states that if they charge money or monies-worth, they must be on the register of Approved Driving Instructors (ADI) which is maintained by the DSA

To be included on the register, driving instructors must complete three tests within two years.

  • The first is a theory and hazard perception test.
  • Then there is a driving skills test.
  • Finally a teaching skills test.

All instructors are graded.

There are many ways to find a good instructor.

  • Talk to friends and get a recommendation.
  • Look through lists such as Yellow Pages, Thomson Local or your local newspaper.
  • Contact a national or local school
But whoever you decide to learn with, remember that the cheapest hourly rate is not necessarily the cheapest overall as you will probably need more lessons to achieve the required standard of driving to pass the driving test - your ultimate goal.
